RoWorld Maps List

Eleven maps, and the kind of game each one produces.

Last updated:

Map choice changes RoWorld more than any other decision before the match starts. A small dense map is a different game from the full world map, and the same build order that wins on one map loses on another.

The eleven maps

RoWorld inherits its map roster from the open-source project it is based on, and the lobby credits them accordingly. The browser version of that project ships around 136 maps; the Roblox port ships eleven of them, and the confirmed list is:

  1. World — the full world map, the largest landmass and the slowest climb to 80 percent.
  2. Asia — a large regional map with many land neighbours and a long coastline.
  3. New York City — a dense urban map with tight borders and very little breathing room.
  4. Southeast Asia — an archipelago-heavy map where water routes matter more than land routes.
  5. Levant — a compact corridor map where a handful of nations share a very long border.
  6. Balkans — a contested inland region with contested inland neighbours.
  7. Rio de Janeiro — a city map built around a single large bay.
  8. Falkland Islands — a remote, sparsely connected map.
  9. Pulicat Lake — a small, enclosed map with very few expansion routes.
  10. Northwest Passage — a long, thin, water-dominated map.
  11. Baikal (Nuke Wars) — the dedicated nuclear warfare map.

Lobby layouts change with the current rotation, and you will often see a public match row advertising the next map in the queue, so check what is actually loading before you queue for something else.

What makes each map play differently

Large maps (World, Asia) reward patience and economy. You can afford to build a Cities-and-Factories cluster, defend one front and expand slowly, because there is always more land. These are the best maps for a new player who wants to learn the economy guide without constant pressure.

Dense maps (New York City, Rio de Janeiro) compress everything. Borders touch immediately, Defense Posts overlap, and a single mistake gives a neighbour a corridor straight into your core. These are the maps where the Defense Post matters most, and where a bot nation next door can end your run in ninety seconds.

Archipelago and water maps (Southeast Asia, Northwest Passage) are the Port maps. Land routes are long or absent, so a Port and boat invasions move from a situational choice to the main plan. Expect to build a Port much earlier than on a continental map, and expect enemies to cross the water at you. The expansion strategy guide covers how to handle multiple fronts, and the ports and sea routes guide covers the naval side in detail.

Compact maps (Levant, Balkans, Pulicat Lake) remove the option of slow, safe growth. There is not enough space for everyone, so early contact is guaranteed. These are excellent for practising your opening build order and for testing whether your expansion is too greedy.

Remote maps (Falkland Islands) separate players from each other, which makes the early game calmer and the late game more decisive, because whoever wins the initial race has very little to expand into afterwards.

Baikal (Nuke Wars) is built around nuclear weapons. If you pick it, read the nukes and fallout guide first — on a map built around nukes, the fallout mechanic is the centre of the game rather than an edge case.

Solo modes and difficulty

Every map can be played solo against AI with three difficulty chips: Relaxed, Standard and Brutal. The differences are the protected window at the start — five, three and two minutes respectively — and how aggressively the AI hunts you. Brutal is described in the lobby as aggressive AI that grows fast and hunts you early, with nations leaving you alone only for the first two minutes.

The map list pairs naturally with the nation list, because the map decides which starting positions exist and what they are worth.

Choosing a map for your goal

  • Learn the game: pick a large map in a solo Standard run. Nothing happens fast and everything is visible.
  • Test your build order: pick a compact map. If your opening survives a dense map, it will survive anything.
  • Learn naval play: pick Southeast Asia or Northwest Passage and build a Port on your first coastal city.
  • Learn nuclear play: pick Baikal.
  • Play for the win: World or Asia, public match, and read the patch notes before you queue so you know what changed.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions RoWorld players ask most.

How many maps are in RoWorld?

Eleven confirmed maps: World, Asia, New York City, Southeast Asia, Levant, Balkans, Rio de Janeiro, Falkland Islands, Pulicat Lake, Northwest Passage and Baikal (Nuke Wars). The lobby rotates which one is up next.

What is the best map for beginners in RoWorld?

A large map such as World or Asia in a solo Standard run. There is room to build an economy, learn the controls and HUD and take your time without constant pressure.

Which RoWorld map is best for beginners to learn boats and Ports?

Southeast Asia or Northwest Passage, where water routes dominate. You will need to build a Port early and defend your shoreline, which makes it the fastest way to learn naval play.

What is the Nuke Wars map in RoWorld?

Baikal (Nuke Wars) is the map built around nuclear weapons. Read the nukes and fallout guide before playing it, since fallout land does not count toward the 80 percent victory condition.

Does the map change which nation is best?

Completely. Each map has a different set of starting positions, so the same country name can be ideal on one map and boxed in on another. The nation list explains how to judge a start by geography.

Does RoWorld have more maps than the eleven listed here?

The open-source project RoWorld is based on ships around 136 maps in its browser version, and the Roblox port currently exposes eleven of them. The lobby rotates which one is up next, so the roster can grow between updates.
